Sarah Manguso Reading

Sarah Manguso performed a virtual reading of her work, hosted by the Sophie Kerr Living Writers series. She read her essay, “Oceans” which was published last year in the Paris Review. Many students were in attendance as well as alumni and Chestertown community members, in the typical spirit of Rose O’Neill Literary House-hosted readings. Following the reading, attendees were given the opportunity to talk to Sarah about her writing process and ask questions relating to the work. Her personal and moving essay handled themes of mortality and repeatedly returned to an image of a tattoo she had dreamed of having. Sarah shared with those in attendance that she did end up getting the tattoo later on. Needless to say, the first Literary House reading of the 2020-2021 school year did not disappoint.
