Lit House Movie Night

The Rose O’Neill Literary House’s first virtual event of the summer took place on Friday, September 4th, 2020. The Lit House hosted a viewing of the movie Persepolis, providing streaming access to any students who were interested in participating. Though far from the Lit House’s enclosed porch, the virtual event maintained the movie night tradition of showing book-to-film adaptations. Persepolis, adapted from the comic by Marjane Satrapi, tells the story of a young girl growing up in war-torn Iran, based on Satrapi’s own experience.

Some students were missing the traditional Literary House movie nights, like Emma Campbell, 2022, “The thing I miss most about in-person Lit House movie night is the snuggly feeling of being surrounded by like-minded friends who appreciate the literary merits of film.” And for some sense of normality, several students offered up their favorite snack for movie nights. Zairel Luna, 2022, said hers is fruit snacks. Erica Ekholm, 2023, said “Pretzels or sour patch kids depending on my mood.” Megan Walsh, 2021, said “The best snack is Extra Toasty Cheez-Its.” Summer Black, 2021, and Destiny Frase, 2023, both said their favorite movie snack is popcorn, and Alison Buckwalter, 2022, said hers is the Extreme Cheddar Goldfish.
