Writer’s Union - Sophomore/Junior Reading

On Tuesday, March 11th, the Writers’ Union hosted the third annual Sophomore/Junior Reading where Junior and Sophomore Washington College students stood before a virtual podium to read their original works. Club president Mackenzie Brady joined by club member Justin Nash reintroduced the event when they joined Writers’ Union because they believed in the importance of having a space for sophomore and junior students to read to an audience and for the first time, Brady and Nash would not be reading their own work. Instead, Isabelle Anderson took the podium first with her poem “I Let Madeleine Pick the Music.” She was followed by Emma Campbell with “We are the Music Makers,” Avery Castellani with “I Eat Bologna on Thanksgiving,” and Julia Clifton with two pieces “The Fruits of Highschool Love” and “To Forget.” Michelle Henry finished the event with her readings of “The March” and “Forgiving is Survival.” Each student read their poems with emotion, adding inflection in their words, ready to share their work with those listening. The Writers’ Union hopes to continue the event after the seniors graduate, handing down the responsibility to the next club leaders.
