Lit House Talk with Prof. Rich Gillin

On March 29th, The Rose O’Neill Literary House invited Dr. Richard Gillin, a retired Washington College professor. Dr. Gillin founded the Kiplin Hall Program and led the program with his late wife Barbara Gillin. The study abroad program takes students to outdoor classrooms in the mountains of Ireland, the fields of England, and more to sites of literary historical significance to learn about influential authors from the places of their inspiration. Gillin recounts the days teaching students not only literature, but culture and life skills as they braved the open road. On their trips, students would cook for themselves, experience nature and food from other cultures, and take on personal responsibilities. Now that the torch has been passed to Professor Katie Charles, the greatest classroom in the world lives on starting in the summer of 2022.
