The Poplar Grove Project: Round 2
On Tuesday November 17th, Chestertown RiverArts Salon hosted a discussion among the Chestertown community to present the finding of the Poplar Grove Project: Round 2. Poplar Grove is a former plantation in Centerville that has been kept within one family for about 400 years. With about one hundred people watching via zoom, photos and videos of the house were shown. Clusters of notes and letters were in boxes dating back from the 1600’s. In 2008 a team from Washington College along with some other researchers analyzed and archived these findings. They even found one letter containing someone’s hair! They also researched the mounds of historical financial documents to assess what the family was selling to gain an insight on their financial success. The researchers plan to discuss this further in a Round 3 discussion.
