How To Think Like Shakespeare: A Lecture by Dr. Scott Newstok

Dr. Scott Newstok, a professor of film, rhetoric, education, lyric poetry, and the humanities at Rhodes College, gave a lecture on his book How To Think Like Shakespeare: Lessons from a Renaissance Education. His book aims to help people “think more deeply, write more effectively, and learn more joyfully.” Dr. Newstok claims we must think about what shaped Shakespeare’s mind in order to think like him. We also must practice our language just as a doctor practices medicine or an athlete practices sports, and we must converse and question each other. Many quotations are included in his work to stress his thesis. After his lecture, students asked questions including how his work can relate to other majors such as music and theater.
