Carter Wilson Lecture
On Tuesday November 17th, Carter Wilson presented about the emerging field of complex care to Washington College staff and students. After defining key terms, he analyzed how a small percentage of Americans rely on significant help from medical professionals because of socioeconomic factors, health behaviors, chronic pre-existing conditions, and physical environment. People may also be affected by who they live with and the frequency they come in contact with the police. Wilson proposed that by achieving greater collaboration between the sectors of the complex healthcare system, we can reduce the utilization of medicine without negatively impacting people’s health. After he finished presenting, he answered thoughtful questions from the audience.
