Kristian Weeks Artist Talk
On September 14th, the Kohl Gallery hosted an artist talk with Kristian Weeks, the first artist in the Kohl Gallery this year. Kristian went to school for music and earned his B.A. in Music Theory. Music led him to realize his passion for art and orchestrating these works. His exhibition, “The Realest” centered around arranging inanimate objects, such as plastic drop cloths, to recreate how nature and natural forces behave. The talk explored topics such as the title of the exhibition, his inspiration, the struggle of creating art during COVID, the definition of nature, and his choice of medium. Because the gallery is limited, the exhibition was recorded as a film, which can be seen on the Kohl Gallery website. Tara Gladden facilitated the talk by prompting Kristian with questions while allowing half an hour at the end for student questions. An interesting question asked by a guest of the talk was why he chose to include human voice in a piece of inanimate objects. He said including his partner’s voice saying his name was a way to sign his piece and put his name on it. The Kohl Gallery expects to have more artists filling the space soon!
