Events

  • Once Upon a Time Reading - September 7

    • What Inspired You to Write is a themed reading in which writers share writing of the author or story which inspired them to take up writing. The purpose of this reading is to emphasize the bond shared, not only as the Writers’ Union, but as writers in general.

  • Fall Family Reading -   September 22

    • The Fall Family Reading is the first event of the year for the Writers’ Union and is open to visiting family and friends, as well as the rest of the Washington College community.

  • National Day of Writing -  October 17

    • The Writers’ Union took part in the National Day of Writing to raise awareness of writing and the opportunities available for writers on campus.

  • Halloween Dance and Graveyard Reading - November 1 and 2

    • The Halloween Dance is the Writers’ Union’s annual event for the fall semester. Every year, prior to the Dance, the club treks to the local cemetery, flashlights and hot cocoa in hand, to read literature, both original and written by others, befitting an evening in the graveyard.

  • Food in Fiction Writers’ Union Holiday Feast - December 6

    • The Writers’ Union Holiday Feast celebrates both the end of the semester and the relationship between food and fiction. Students prepared drinks, dishes, or desserts that have been made famous through works of literature.

  • The Blackhearts Ball -  February 14

    • The annual Blackhearts Ball allows members to commiserate heartache on the day of love. The gathering encourages the sharing of stories and poems of woebegone romance. “Punch-You-in-the-Heart” punch and red velvet cake were served, while DJ Sgt-Whip provided the night’s music, tugging at even the stiffest of heartstrings.

  • The Un-Birthday Party Reading - April 23

  • The Erotic Reading - April 30
