The Waterfront and The Chester River

Walking south through downtown Chestertown from Washington College, one finds the banks of the Chester River. Each year, events like the Chestertown Tea Party, Pirates & Wenches Fantasy Weekend, and the spectacular Sultana Downrigging bring visitors to Chestertown’s scenic waterfront to experience the beauty of the river that gives our town its name. Washington College has a particular relationship with the river, as many of our sports revolve around its use. The Rowing and Sailing teams practically live on the river during their seasons, while other students make use of the boat house’s other opportunities, such as kayaking and wakeboarding.
