Strawberries and Sparkling by the Shore
May 5th, 2023
Coverage by Emma Reilly ‘23
As a way to celebrate submitting their final Senior Capstone Experiences and making it to the end of their careers at Washington College, a Strawberries and Sparkling event was held for upcoming graduates at the Boathouse on Friday, May 5th. The event was put together by professor of Spanish and Black Studies, Dr. Elena Deanda and a source of SCE motivation for the 2022-23 school year. The event included champagne, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, as well as an abundance of strawberries for the taking. Graduates enjoyed a bonfire, conversations with their peers and advisors and the setting sun over the Chester River, which President Sosulski defined as “golden hour.” Raffles were held for students and advisors, where they were welcome to nominate themselves for several different categories, such as “Best Advisor/Copyeditor,” and “Worst Data Loss.” Selected nominees were given a surprise gift. A collective toast was held towards the end of the evening. This event allowed students to connect with their graduating class and advisors, reflect on their SCE writing experiences, and celebrate the next chapters of their lives.
