Starr Center Explore America Internship Presentations
September 6th, 2022
Coverage by Amara Sorosiak ‘23
Washington College’s Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience hosted two presentation nights for recipients of Explore America internship grants, the first on Tuesday, September 5th, and the second on Wednesday, September 6th, both at 5:00 p.m. Recipients were given an opportunity to share the exciting experiences they had this summer through the program, their responsibilities, what they learned about themselves, the field they worked in, and their career goals. Thirty-one Washington College students, across all different majors, received a grant to work at, and learn about, some of America’s leading cultural institutions; from Smithsonian National Museums in Washington D.C. to the National Aquarium in Baltimore. Some students worked in museum libraries as archivists, tended to gardens, or did grassroots community outreach on behalf of their institution. Ultimately, these opportunities help them to gain real-world experience that they can utilize beyond their time at Washington College and allows them to build their professional network.
Senior Sharon Niedringhaus begins her presentation on her experience entering at Longwood Gardens.
Recent graduates, who are also eligible for Explore America internships, sent in recordings or gave their presentations virtually.
