Sigrid Nunez Reading
April 13th, 2022
On Wednesday, April 13th, the Rose O’Neill Literary House and English Department gave an ecstatic, virtual welcome to fiction writer Sigrid Nunez. Students, faculty, and members of the greater Washington College community gathered on Zoom to hear Sigrid Nunez read from her latest novel, What Are You Going Through, and discuss her process for crafting a novel. She received the National Book Award for fiction in 2018 for her novel The Friend and now teaches in the MFA creative writing program at Hunter College. What Are You Going Through follows a narrator who was asked to accompany a distant friend during her last days after a prolonged battle with cancer, as they travel together up north. A Q&A session followed Nunez’s reading, where she talked about how long it takes her to develop a novel and even predicted the United States’ response to a pandemic in 2010’s Salvation City.
