Stephen, planning to run the New York City marathon the next morning, is kept awake all night by his wife’s old roommate, Emily. John Leslie ’18 as Stephen. The living room set was static throughout the production; the play focused on changes in mood rather than scenery. Emily cries after leaving her cheating husband, and Stephen does his best to comfort her, despite his aversion to tears. John Leslie captured in an emphatic moment. Emily poses a number of ‘what if’ questions to Stephen, who is clearly not amused. Emily tries to sleep numerous times throughout the play, but to no avail due to the city noise. Stephen and Emily share conversation in the small hours of the morning. Stephen, currently unemployed, remembers his illustrious career as an architect. Emily and Stephen glance at ‘the book’ which contains memories from past roommates come and gone. Stephen and Emily share an intimate moment. Stephen decides, after a sleepless night, to run the marathon anyways. Location: Daniel Z. Gibson Center for the Arts
