The English and Theater departments took a trip to DC on November 10, 2024, with a small group of students to see Romeo and Juliet at the Folger Shakespeare Theater. The production was a modern adaptation of the story and was partially bilingual; some characters spoke in Spanish and there were captions on the stage for those unfamiliar with the language. Modernized components included the use of cell phones—especially through social media, text messages, Instagram, and video chat—making the Capulets and Montagues part of the two political parties in the United States (with a pre-show where they discussed the plans for each party), the gender-swapping of some of the characters, and the use of some (though minor) Gen Z slang.
