Romeo and Juliet

November 16, 2023

Romeo and Juliet announce their love for each other.

A fight scene between several of the characters.

For their senior capstone experience, Skye Hass chose to recreate Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet as a queer and queer-led production. They changed Romeo’s character to a girl. Hass wrote in their director’s note that they did not want characters to feel othered for their queerness, instead they highlighted the fact that the production is a story of hatred between families, not an LGBT identity. The play starred sophomore Ella Kozlawski as Juliet and, junior, Farren Hauer as Romeo. The play was held on Friday and Saturday during November 16th at 7:30 p.m. in Tawes. The department encouraged donations to the food pantry.
