On November 16th, 2023, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Goldstein Program in Public Affairs invited the Founder and President of the Public Research Institute, Robert P. Jones to come and speak in the Hotchkiss Recital Hall. As guests entered the talk, the first 50 individuals, or couples, were given a free signed copy of Jones’ book, The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy, funded by the Office of Diversity. As the audience of students, faculty, and local community members got settled, Chair of the Political Science Department Dr. Christine Wade, opened up the talk discussing the past of Washington College as well as the presence of the National Justice Party on campus in recent months. After introducing him, Dr. Jones went up to the podium to discuss his book. In his talk, he went into his own family background and how he had to reckon with his own past when writing his book. Within his work, he blends together three communities that must wrestle with their own legacies. After speaking, the floor was open to questions from the audience.
