Starting the week of October 24th, The Office of Student Engagement launched a Community Mural Project in Hodson’s Goose Nest. Students and Faculty were invited to pick up a brush and add to the mural, under the guidance of muralist Katyti Didrikson and student Kaitlyn Tourin. There were also reserved times to paint alongside various faculty members, also known as the ''Celebrity Painters'' of the day. Athletes, sororities, fraternities, student leaders, presidential fellows, and other student or faculty groups each had their own time blocks to make their impact on the wall as well. The mural is located on the back wall next to the Student Events Board offices, depicting “the process of forest succession from the early formation of soil to the eventual growth of old-growth forests,” according to a promotional flier posted across campus. Contributors added shading and greenery to the mural; their impact was seemingly minuscule, but important nevertheless. This project was set up to encourage collaboration and connection between members of the Washington College community, as well as add a unique and beautiful flair to the student center.
