In celebration of Banned Books Week Washington College’s Hillel in partnership with the Department of Education and Library and Academic Technology hosted a campus and community-wide presentation and discussion about book banning. The talk was hosted in the Hynson Lounge on Tuesday, September 20th at 7:00 p.m. The presentation was centered around Art Spiegelman’s Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel Maus, a frequently challenged and banned book. Public Services Librarian Andrea Boothby Rice gave a presentation about the history and reasons for book banning before Coordinator of Secondary Education and Lecturer in Education Professor Erin Counihan facilitated a discussion with attendees about Maus.
