On November 14th, the Rose O’Neill Literary House welcomed author Manuel Muñoz to campus for select readings from his fiction. Muñoz is the author of one novel, What You See in the Dark, as well as short story collections Zigzagger and The Faith Healer of Olive Avenue. He has also received awards from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Whiting Foundation, and two O. Henry Awards. His most recent short story collection, The Consequences, released in 2022, centers around everyday Mexican Americans in California’s Central Valley during the 1980s, their obligations, and their desires. Muñoz writes with a love for the unremarkable, and making it wondrous as a result. The event began with a reading from one of the short stories in the collection, “The Reason Is Because,” before delving into a Q&A session. There, Muñoz answered questions about his process, tribulations with writing, and his attraction to short stories as a medium. The event concluded with a book signing, with copies available to purchase at the Lit House.

Muñoz signs a copy of his book for student Grace Apostel.
