In continuation of a three-part series on polar expeditions, the Center for Environment and Society and Department of Environmental Science and Studies held a screening of Into the Ice (2022) in Norman James Theatre on Tuesday, February 7th at 7:00 p.m. The documentary was introduced by Experiential Programs Assistant for CES alumni Emma Cease ‘22. Students, faculty, and community members gathered to watch the film, which follows director Lars Ostenfeld and glaciologists Dr. Jason Box, Dr. Dorthe Dahl-Jensen, and Dr. Alun Hubbard as they collect climate data in Greenland. “The thing with ice is that you have to listen, and it will reveal its secrets,” Dr. Box said. “It tells us a story.” Featuring breathtaking visuals and record-breaking feats of science and technology, Into the Ice hammers home the harsh realities of ever-worsening climate conditions.

The screening was the second event in a three-part series about polar expeditions slated to conclude in February.

The film featured drone footage of Greenland’s mountainous landscape.
