SGA & GEO hosted an event to celebrate Holi, the Hindu “festival of colors”
On Saturday, March 24th, SGA & GEO hosted an event to celebrate Holi, a Hindu festival also known as the “festival of colours”. The holiday indicates the change of seasons from winter to spring, and the victory of good over evil. Holi is celebrated mainly in India and other countries in southern Asia at the beginning of March, but because of inclement weather, Washington College students celebrated on March 24th.
The event kicked off with a bonfire on Friday, March 23rd, which symbolized the burning of Holika, the devil. This was followed by the actual Holi celebration and festival of colours the day after. Students from many different backgrounds and beliefs took part in the festival by dancing and throwing colorful powders at one another; the powders were non-toxic and natural.
