Some big moments at Washington College!

Eastern Shore Food Lab Community Pizza Night

March 07, 2019

On March 1, 2019, the Eastern Shore Food Lab in Chestertown held its inaugural community pizza night, welcoming students of Washington College and citizens of Chestertown to a night of sustainable eating and camaraderie. The ESFL is an establishment founded and directed by Dr. Bill Schindler that’s dedicated to educating the public in sustainable food systems, all in the context of the Eastern Shore food-shed. “All of the components of the pizza that we made were made in the food lab…we made the dough, we made the cheese out of milk from a local dairy farm…It’s important to buy products that are made locally and we get to support local businesses…it teaches people not to be overly dependent on the food industry,” said Melissa DeFrancesco, a WAC freshman and Environmental Studies major who is an ESFL intern.

Birthday Ball 2019: Under the Stars

February 23, 2019

Washington College hosted its 55th annual G.W. Birthday Ball in the JFC on Sat., February 23, 2019. The Student Events Board led by Sarah Noman put the event together and came up with this year’s theme of “Under the Stars.” There were tables full of seemingly endless amounts of snack foods like pretzels, chips, and buffalo chicken dip. There was also a nice backdrop for photo-taking and an impressive array of lights throughout the night. During the Ball, President Landgraf gave a toast to SEB for setting up the event and to George Washington for being our favorite president. The event was followed by a midnight breakfast in the dining hall.
