“E.R.O.S. is here to support whatever sexuality one might have. I love what E.R.O.S. stands for (Encouraging Respect of Sexuality) because this phrase doesn’t label it as being strictly about the alliance between gay and straight individuals. The club focuses touches on all sexualities as well as the role one’s gender can play in that identification. This year we have branched outside of the school, trying to interact and support local efforts in Chestertown with the PFLAG group. It has been successful in many ways because now both groups have many places where their efforts can become more effective. It is important to make sure that individuals feel like they can come to meetings especially if they are struggling to understand sexuality or gender.”
- E.R.O.S. Co-President Claire Hansen
E.R.O.S. is involved in a number of activities over the year, and is aligned with a number of other organizations and equality groups on campus, such as the Office of Multicultural Affairs. The two biggest events E.R.O.S. is involved in are Drag Ball and Day of Silence. Drag Ball is a party where participants cross dress and enjoy an evening of food, fun, dancing, and gender bending. Day of Silence is a national event which involves the use of silent protestation to bring attention to the silence often forced upon people of the GLBTQ (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning) community.
