On February 26th, 2019, The Lit House hosted a reading with author Edward P. Jones
On Thursday, February 26, 2019, The Rose O’Neill Literary House hosted its second Living Writers Series event of the semester, featuring renowned author Edward P. Jones. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the International Dublin Literary Award, Jones has published three books that have all received high praise and recognition. He also received the Lannan Literary Award for his novel, The Known World, as well as a MacArthur Fellowship. Jones studied at the College of the Holy Cross and the University of Virginia. He currently teaches creative writing at George Washington University.
Professor Roy Kesey introduced Jones, describing Jones’ books as “classics that were built to last.” Jones read the beginnings of two of his short stories titled The Devil Swims Across the Anacostia River and Blindsided, both of which were from his collection All Aunt Hagar’s Children, published in 2006. When asked about his writing process during the Q&A, Jones said he starts off with a general idea and a clear ending in mind, so that he can keep working his way towards the conclusion of his story even if he gets lost along the way.
