Craft Talk with Amber Dermont
April 11, 2018
On Wednesday. April 11th, author Amber Dermont gave a craft talk at the Rose O’Neill Literary House
Last year, Dermont was awarded the Mary Woods Fellowship which is a nationwide biannual fellowship awarded to a female identifying writer who writes either poetry, fiction, or creative non-fiction and has published at least one book.
Dermont centered her talk around the use of comedy within writing, as a lot of her work includes comedic aspects. However, comedy in itself isn’t a completely positive thing. Many examples of humor are laced within more morbid things. Dermont explained this by discussing the background behind her short story, ‘The Splendid Wife,’ which was also sold as broadsides at the Literary House. After speaking, Dermont took a few questions from audience members who were curious about the balance between the macabre and humorous.
