Concert Series with Rahim AlHaj playing Arabic Oud with String/Percussion
November 07, 2018
On November 7, 2018, Washington College Music Department welcomed Rahim AlHaj as part of their premier artists lineup.
AlHaj, accompanied by a string and percussion septet, played an instrument known as the Arabic Oud. The Oud is an ancient instrument that can be traced back almost 5,000 years ago.
The songs selected for the evening were from AlHaj’s latest record, Letters from Iraq. Each song told the story of Iraqi people during times of war and sanctions and even what it was like for AlHaj to finally return to his home country after years of being away. The reception, which was held prior in the Hynson lounge, included a talk by AlHaj who went into further detail about his life and his music.
