Busload of Books Tour Presentation
September 14, 2023
In 2022, Mathew Swanson and Robbi Behr embarked on their journey across the United States to deliver author talks and free books to Title I eligible schools. They, with their four kids, traveled from Chestertown, MD to one school in every state. To close out their 350 day journey, an event was held on September 14th, 2023 on Washington College’s campus. Starting in Martha Washington Square, ice cream was served, the bus used for their tour was open for tours, and the Washington College research team tabled with stickers and informational sheets. The event then moved into Decker Theatre where Matthew and Robbi told the story of their journey across the country promoting literacy. In a presentation filled with hopeful moments, laughs, and some tears, they recounted their experience. Additionally, the Washington College research team spoke about their findings as a result of the data collected on the tour. Overall, they found statistically significant data showing the positive effects of author visits and book giveaways.
